Centenary Bank has committed to support the forthcoming Rotary Cancer Run with a Shs 110M boost. This was announced by the bank’s managing director, Fabian Kasi, during the launch of the Run at the Cancer Centre, Nsambya on Tuesday.
Mr Kasi, who was among the speakers at the launch, reminded the public that Centenary Bank has been among the supporters of the Rotary clubs cancer activities and initiatives for over six years now and will continue to be a part of the fight against cancer in Uganda.
“Of all the rotary projects undertaken in this country, we chose to support activities related to cancer because we know it is such a silent killer, yet whose early detection can save life. The run is one of my team’s key events every year not only because it is part of the Bank’s philanthropy activities but it also joins us from the 65 branches spread country wide into one centre,” Kasi said.
“We have also invited several customers and other stakeholders to participate and shall continue to do so. It is therefore my privilege to announce that we shall once again sponsor the cancer run with a total of Shs 110 Million.”
This year, the Rotary Cancer Run will focus on raising money needed to equip the Cancer Ward at Nsambya Hospital with Linear Accelerator.
The linear Accelerator is a cancer treatment machine that offers a safer alternative where cancerous cells are destroyed without affecting the surrounding tissue.
The Katikiro of Buganda, Charles Peter Mayiga, expressed how close to home the fight against cancer is to him and he urged all subjects of the Kabaka to be a part of the fight against cancer in one way or another.
“This cancer run is not only a great way to show support in Rotary’s efforts to kick cancer out of the country but also one of the ways we can stay healthy and in shape,” the Katikiro of Buganda said.
