Former German motocross champion Jurgen Kuppers has arrived in the country with a promise that after he redesigns some sections of the Garuga track, motocross riders and fans will have a whole new experience of the sport.

Kuppers is here to spruce up the Garuga track that he last redesigned in 2014 and hold training sessions for riders ahead of the third round of the Mountain Dew Motocross Championship due April 30 and May 1.

“I am not going to change the entire track but a few sections that will make the riders have a feel of an international track while providing better entertainment to the fans,” said Kuppers.

In his welcoming remarks, Tracy Kakuru, the Mountain Dew brand executive, thanked Kuppers for dedicating his time to Uganda to share his knowledge of the sport with the riders.

“Mountain Dew is a sport for the daring and people who want to do out-of-the-ordinary stuff. We are happy to have Jurgen Kupper here to create that kind of excitement and thrill for the riders and fans. We look forward to seeing the results of the redesign of the track and we believe that his training sessions will improve the riding skills of Uganda riders to enable them win more titles for themselves and Uganda,” Kakuru said.

Leila Blick of the Uganda Motocross Association thanked Mountain Dew for ensuring that Kupper is here to improve the sport.

“Kupper will conduct a three-day training session for the riders and the re-touching of the some sections of the Garuga track will take him up-to five days,” Leila said.

Kupper, also winner of the 2015 Veterans WM Championship, was introduced to the sport at nine years and has since become a professional motocross trainer and owner of the International Motocross School in Germany.

Gates to the Garuga race track will open at 10am and tickets will be on sale at Ugx10, 000 general and Ugx20, 000 VIP.
