Uganda simply cannot beat Egypt. Or Egypt simply cannot lose to Uganda. This was reflected again on Wednesday as the Pharaohs for the second time in three days beat Cranes, this time handing them a 3-0 defeat.

Like he did in the 2-0 friendly win on Monday, Ahmed Eid opened scoring for Egypt in the first half before Mohamed Abdul Shafy and Ahmed Samir completed the 3-0 rout after recess.

The game, which was hastily agreed upon by the two parties after Iraq’s friendly with Uganda was called off at the 11th hour, was played at the Air Defence Stadium in Cairo.

This was also the third time in three months the two sides were meeting in friendlies this year, the first – a 3-0 win – coming in El Gouna City in August.

At the Air Defence Stadium on Wednesday, Uganda’s Brian Majwega, who had had flashes of brilliance in the game, missed a penalty five minutes from time as Uganda returned home having shipped in five in two games and scored none.

But Cranes coach Micho Sredojevic will have been encouraged by the fact that his boys, most rookies, will have learnt a lesson or two off the quality Egyptian side.

Coach Bob Bradley’s Egypt used the two friendlies against Uganda prepare for their 2014 World Cup qualifying play-off against Ghana this month while the Cranes are building up for Cecafa starting next month in Nairobi and the Africa Nations Championship (Chan) in South Africa, January.
