Sports Club Villa may fail to honor their away tie in the CAF Confederations Cup against Morocco’s FUS Rabat in the second round of the continental tournament.
It should be recalled that the Jogoos’ major challenge since the start of the 2016 campaign has been financial issues that saw the club transport just about 16 players for their away engagements in Sudan against El Khartoum Watani and in Zanzibar against JKU.
However, the Blues were recently over the moon after the club president Eng. Ben Immanuel Misagga announced President Museveni’s pledge of 400million that would help cater for the team’s away trip to Morocco.
“President Museveni offered Shs400m towards the game in Morocco. We were not expecting this kind of offer because the president had previously given us a bus,” Misagga told local newspaper, the Daily Monitor.
However, close sources to the club yesterday revealed to the same publication that the President’s pledge is yet to be received despite the team’s scheduled departure to be tomorrow and according to Misagga, they are doing all they can to see the team honour its engagements.
“What you should know is that we are doing all we can to see to it that the team travels,” he said.
After ejecting Al Khartoum on a 2-0 aggregate in the preliminary round of the competition, Villa went on send JKU packing on a 5-0 aggregate in the first round with both fixtures played home and away.
The Jogoos are now two stages away from the lucrative group stages where they would earn a minimum of Shs 500M.
