Uganda Cranes Team

By Robert Kayindi James

The Federation of Uganda Football Association (FUFA) has organised prayers for the national team ahead of a back-to-back fixture with Burkina Faso in the 2017 AFCON Qualifiers in Ouagadougou on 26th March and later in Kampala on 29th March.

According to online reports, the local football governing body reached out to various religious leaders seeking divine intervention for the national team that has for the last 38 years failed to qualify for the highest continental competition.

With a new campaign dubbed ‘Mujje Tulumbe’ launched recently by FUFA plus the now divine intervention program, its profoundly clear that the Cranes are keen to break the 38-year jinx.

“We are glad that our requests have been honoured. We are looking forward to making the National prayers a success. We encourage all Ugandans to pray for the National team-Uganda Cranes,” reads a statement on the federation’s website.

According to the program, the Uganda Cranes and other players belonging to a similar religion will pray from areas designated to FUFA by the religious groups.

“It is important to put God ahead of everything. Even if the results turn out to be good or bad, you will look back to God for His decision,” Imaam Shiwuyo remarked.
