The Uganda Cranes suffered their first defeat in the regional tour when they were thumped by the West Nile Select team 1 nil last weekend at the Onduparaka grounds in Arua.

Last year, Airtel Uganda in partnership with FUFA and Nile Special, rolled out the national team’s regional tours aimed at reaching the grassroots fans, appreciating the regional local teams and preparing the national team for the AFCON qualifiers that are scheduled for this month.

Similar to the Masindi regional game played late last year, the West Nile team had a chance to go up against all the available Uganda Cranes team members as they played two separate teams from the national team in a colorful match that ended in victory for West Nile Select thanks to Ceaser Olega who scored the only goal of the game in the 63rd minute.

Speaking after the match, Airtel Uganda Brands and Assets Executive Musa Mayanja congratulated the West Nile team on their victory.

“As the official sponsor of the national team, Airtel Uganda is proud to see the level of football talent growing across the country,” he said adding that Airtel will continue to support football at all levels in Uganda.
