Veteran Tanzanian singer Lucas Mkenda, better known by his stage name Mr Nice, has come out to refute claims that he is broke.

Speaking to Tanzania’s Bongo5 last week, the Kidali Po star said if he was facing financial bottlenecks as quotas claim, then he would not have built a big mansion in a span of three months as he recently did.

“What people don’t know is that they gave me a lot of money that I am using to date. Those who claim I am broke don’t know what they are talking about – I am very loaded. I am now putting to shame those who mocked me for ‘going broke’.

“I have built a big mansion at my rural place in Moshi; within three months the construction was complete,” said Mr Nice.

He questioned if “any broke person” can achieve such a milestone.

“Can those who are languishing in poverty build such a house today? Why don’t you concentrate on those artistes who are stressed? Now that gesture puts to shame those who unrelentingly mocked me,” concluded the singer.
