When we talk of one hit wonders we simply mean the artistes who surfaced on the music scene a single time just because of only one song that managed to catch airwaves. We cant help but wonder whether it was sheer luck or not? Well, we now reveal some of these fellas:
Ziggy Dee
This is the clear definition of a one hit wonder in Uganda. He rose to fame by his single hit of “Eno mic” which was heard in the early 2000s when Fire base Crew was on every ones lips where he was part of the group. He had a punch line of “nebwogikwataako maama osiima” and we as music analysts we conclude that no one touched it or those touched didn’t appreciate and this made Ziggy dee so furious that he dropped the talent.
Hajjat Madina
The Moslem lady Hajjat Madina also came out of the blue with her single hit of “Bibuuza” and started receiving invitations on every concert to perform. But since the year 2012 we have not heard the voice of Hajjat Madina on any music platform. May be she got the answer to whatever she was asking in her song and thereafter decided to call it quits.
H.E Y.K Museveni
Our President managed to throw us a hit in the genre of hip hop a few years back dubbed “mpe enkoni”. This was during the tense times of searching for votes in the presidential elections. Since then he has not appeared on the music scene. May be we can expect more of the hip hop as we prepare for 2016 elections.
Clever J
The spaced teeth musician also came on the scene of Uganda’s music industry with the hit of “manzi wanani” which one would call a brother hit to chameleon’s “ maoko na maoko” song. This was when critics started scaring the Badilisha star that Cleve j might make him go back to the village. But gossip reaching us reveals how clever j not only went off the music scene but has gone further than his village for a stint of roasting g.nuts in south Sudan.
Lady Mariam
This name might be uncommon to many. The name that she earned her self was lady “Tindatine” after releasing her Runyankole hit of “Tindatiine”. She has tried to consolidate her talent by coupling with some artistes and also releasing a few songs here and there but really luck has not been on this girls side, so she is also among the one hit wonders.
More one hit wonders include; Samali Matovu with “Omukwano gunyuma”, Master Blaster with “Embooko” and Pastor George Okudi with Wipolo to mention but a few.
