By Seguya Musa
Akongo is a very talented vocalist signed to Gifted Music Group (GMG). BigEye.Ug’s Seguya Musa caught up with her for a quick take and we have the excerpts:
Why ‘Akongo’ and what’s your real name?
My real name is Akongo Teddy Noeline. I go by the stage name Akongo because it’s my name and it’s who I am. I love being African.
Which schools did you go to?
I went to Rock View Primary School for primary school and then I joined Rock High School in Tororo, where I did both O and A’levels. Later I joined Makerere University Kampala where I graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Mass Communication.
When did you get the interest to join music?
When I was selected to sing a set piece in primary school (P.6). That’s when I discovered my talent and started to develop it.
What type of music do you sing?
I sing all types of genres but I always make sure there is an RnB touch. My lyrics are in English, Luganda, Swahili and Japadhola.
How many songs have you recorded so far?
I have 5 song so far; Akimiti, Bwoba, Fresh Lover, Cry (ft Rey Heavens) and my latest single, Onina.
What else do you do, apart from music?
Besides music I am a model.
Who is your favorite Ugandan artiste and why?
Lilian Mbabazi. I love the African sound in her voice.
If you had the opportunity to change something in Uganda’s music industry, what would it be?
I would call for more respect for musicians. Many people out there take artistes to be ill mannered individuals without any purpose in society, forgetting that music is a career. I would honestly love to change that perception.
As you are starting to reach out your career in the music industry, what steps do you plan on taking to reach your goal?
I believe that practice makes perfect. So I am going to dedicate much of my time to practice and also always accompany music with an instrument.
What should your fans expect from you this year?
I have a lot in store this year. My fans should expect more music, both audios and videos. The video for my latest song, Onina will be out soon. I also hope to start up a clothing line by the end of the year.
Do you have any last words?
Yes, I really want to thank all the fans for supporting Akongo and the entire GMG.
