Government in Tanzania is deliberating on a proposal to ban all social media websites during working hours. The Social Media platforms in question are Facebook, Twitter and Instagram which the government says have contributed to a loss of man-hours through distractions.

“For a start, we want to implement this directive in all government offices and ministries. We don’t see why public servants should waste valuable time facebooking when they should be serving the citizens,” said an official.

Under the arrangement, Facebook and Twitter would be switched off from 9am till 5pm in all government offices. Those employees who will want to use these services will either report earlier to work or stay longer at work. Government hopes that this will soon be implemented all over Tanzania.

In these new communications reforms under Magufuli, Social Media sites will be off in Tanzania during Weekdays from 9am till 5pm. They will be fully on during weekends.

Well, if you’ve been wondering #whatwouldmagufulido there you have it.
