About 3 months ago Sandra Asio set out to turn Kampala and Uganda at large into one very big happy social network – I can’t call it a family, simply because the traditional meaning of the word may not allow for people to explore romance.
Yet to Sandra the event is all about breaking social barriers and busking in the horizon of possibilities; forget deadlines and just enjoy decent conversations with complete strangers. That’s what speed dating is all about.
On the 9th of August, Sandra hosted her third speed dating extravaganza at Grand imperial, it was the first time for many to attend a function of that acclaim, so as you can imagine; nerves were edgy, everyone was technically on the back foot but I could smell possibilities in the air.
The occasional smile warmed up the event a little more but Sandra had done such a good job with the décor, the mood was exhilarating. Blushing was airborne and flirting was not an incriminating gesture so the night was one a thrilling ordeal.
The attendance couldn’t be compared to radio Simba’s ekigunda ky’omwaka but it was adequate and was by a long shot better than her maiden event. “I didn’t expect such a response so I was so excited that people found my idea interesting and went the extra mile to actually show up – such is the spirit that keeps me going,” Sandra said with a grin of satisfaction on her face.
Even though the idea of speeding is still alien to some and perhaps a cliché; with two successful events in her bag, Sandra and her company – Mingle Uganda are looking to add a third.
“Speeding is back – don’t know why I said it’s back because like I said before it will be a monthly thing so I guess in a way I’m simply sticking to the plan. However, we shall keep evolving the idea so that we keep people coming. This month we have a special surprise for our guests something that I would ruin if I spoke more of,” Sandra insisted to keep the surprise a surprise.
