Musicians Radio and Weasel have commented about the ongoing debate on whether an artiste should go against his fans’ wishes and identify with a certain political party.
Radio and Weasel revealed that when it comes to the Tubonga Nawe song, it is about everyone’s right to vote and not what the fans of the artiste say.
“Artistes also have a right to vote for which ever candidate they prefer. I don’t see why this is an issue because as Ugandans we vote too just like anyone else. People should just vote for whoever they wish,” Radio said.
“The way I see it, NRM commissioned artistes to do a song and they did it. They got paid and their families are very happy. As an artiste it is my job to sing so another party like FDC can pay another group to sing and there is no problem whatsoever in that,” Weasel said.
Recently, fans almost cut ties with their favourite stars when they showed their support for President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni. It was only after the artistes explained to them that they too have a right to vote and support any candidate of their choice that the fire cooled down.
