For those who love to travel but work 5 days a week, the perception is that one must take leave to travel. Day-trips are ideal because they pack as much punch as possible within a short period. They are perfect use of long lay-overs and weekends. Here are some amazing day-trips from Uganda’s capital.
Mukono
Mukono is one of the less explored towns when it comes to tourism though it has much to offer. Get away from all the noise and dust of Kampala and spend a day learning pottery at the World vision project at the African Village hotel. You can also take a sunset cruise from the Mutoola beach resort as you enjoy a cold beer.
Lake Mburo
A day trip to Lake Mburo starts with leaving Kampala at 6am. The drive is three hours and by 9:00 AM you arrive at the Lake Mburo national park. The first activity should be a boat ride on the lake where you will get to see otters, crocodiles as well as many bird species. You can follow this with a game drive through the park to witness the zebras, buffaloes, warthogs and antelopes in their natural habitat. You end the day by stopping at the Equator monument for a quick photo-op as you head back to the city.
Entebbe
Who doesn’t like sun and sand? Nobody! Just a 40minute drive from Kampala, Entebbe has a number of water sports as well as slower paced activities. There is something for everyone. You can learn to sail boats or jet-skii across the lake. For the less adventurous traveler visit to the botanical gardens is quite relaxing. Here you can spot numerous bird species. There are also a number of hotels on Jovago.com that have beach access and spa services because there is no better way to end a day-trip than a massage by the beach.
