Ojuelegba by itself was one of the hit tracks off Wizkid’s 2014 ‘Joy’ album. Then Drake jumped on it and it became a monster hit.
Speaking with Ghana’s Empire FM, Wizkid talked about how Drake had reached out to him on Instagram and asked for a meet up in London where the remix of the song was recorded:
This is what he said:
“I was there and saw that Drake followed me on Instagram so I DMed him and I was like ‘Yo, I’m a big fan of your music’ and he was like I like your music as well. So we started talking and we talked about hooking up in London, so I went to London the next day and when I got there, I saw that he had already done his verse to the song, it was just funny men!”
Wizkid’s words come days after Canadian musician Drake gave an interview where he said he was honored to have been featured on the remix of Wizkid’s hit track Ojuelegba.
when asked why he recorded the song with Skepta, if it was some attempt at “international outreach” and the desire to build audiences in foreign markets, Drake waved that notion away.
“I just did it because I was in the moment,” he said. “I wasn’t thinking like, ‘Oh man, I gotta get my brand up in Nigeria. Not to say that’s not important. I’m super-honored to be on that song.”
Wizkid’s 3rd album was one of the most anticipated albums of 2015 until he postponed the release to ‘sometime next year’.
