Tanzanian singer, Nasibu Abdul Juma aka Diamond  has been declared by MTV as the winner of  ‘Best African Act’ for the 2015 MTV Europe Music Awards (EMAs), beating competition from the likes of Yemi Alade, DJ Arafat, AKA and Davido.

The Number One singer walked away the prestigious award thanks to scores of music fans who visited mtvema.com to vote for him.

“MTV today revealed that Diamond Platnumz is the winner of the 2015 MTV EMAs Best African Act. Scores of music fans visited mtvema.com to vote for Diamond Platnumz, who beat incredible competition from AKA, Yemi Alade, Davido, and DJ Arafat,” a statement from the station read.

Diamond now has a more daunting task ahead as he is up against Best Indian Act, who is none other than Quantico star, Piryanka Chopra for the Best Africa/India Act award.

Previous winners of  ‘Best African Act’ include our very own boy band, Sauti Sol (2014), LCNVL (2013), D’Banj (2012 & 2007), Freshlyground (2006) and 2Face (2005).

The 2015 EMAs will take place on Sunday, 25 October, in Milan hosted by Ed Sheeran and Ruby Rose.

Pharrell Williams, Ed Sheeran & Rudimental, Ellie Goulding, Jason Derulo, Twenty one pilots, Martin Garrix, Afrojack, Tori Kelly, James Bay, Jess Glynne and Macklemore & Ryan Lewis will all perform on the big night.
