Due to lack of publicity, the Globe has not had a chance to find out more about the pearl of Africa. However, Uganda is one of the African countries rich with good climate and other unique physical features which are not found elsewhere in the world.
As one of the ways to promote Uganda’s tourism activities, the ministry of Tourism together with other stakeholders have decided to run a beauty pageant where the overall winner will get a chance to represent Uganda in the Miss Tourism international pageant due to take place on 3rd December in Kuala Lumpar, Malaysia.
Speaking to the press on Thursday, Irene Zikusooka the chairperson Miss tourism pageant said, “the major reason for this event is to serve as a platform to educate and promote tourism and cultural exchanges among contestants. It is also intended to showcase to the country our natural resources as well as cultivate the culture of travel.”
Mrs Zikusoka also mentioned that the search started on July 31 and the finals are to take place on October 5 at Sheraton Hotel in Kampala. One hundred participants were selected to enter the auditions and so far only fifteen have managed to go through the first round finals.
“The top fifteen finalists will show case the famous tourist attraction sites and will spend twelve days touring the big six tourism sites as way of marketing them,” said Mrs Zikusoka. She further said, “at the end, the top three winners are going to win touristic related prizes.”
