Flavia Tumusiime continues to share inspiring stories from her life and career in the “30 days of Flavia Tumusiime” series. On day 16, she posted:
“I have difficult phases sometimes because am too ambitious and want to achieve everything at once. I was going through one of those a year ago, I was tired of my job and I felt I was not growing. I tried everything I knew possible, applied to every job I thought I could do. No call backs. I was stuck on what to do with my life.
Then one of my close friends in Kenya(where I was considering moving to) called to tell me how she got a new job and was so excited. I was so jealous, I felt I worked harder than her and I deserved to have something happen to me atleast.
I was pretending to be happy for her but I could not possibly be,Ii had now shifted focus on comparing her life to mine, what made her better than me? But all that envy eating me up was slowly dragging me from the right path.
I was now broken in spirit and each day was not worth it. It took all of me to wake up and realise perhaps, she also had put in work and the universe rewarded her. Perhaps I had my own calling and road to success.
Envy and jealousy only drag you back. No matter how bad your situation is, you have your own time coming and your own happy days, dont try to poke someone’s joy to please your unhappiness.”
