Tanzanian pay television, Azam has extended its cameras to Rwanda to broadcast the top flight league in the country.

The Uganda Premier League broadcasters unveiled a 5 year deal this week worth $2.35M in which they will be sponsoring the Rwanda Premier League.

The deal will see Rwanda’s top flight be renamed to Azam Rwanda Premier League. Azam TV already has rights to broadcast the leagues in Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda and Burundi.

According to Newtimes.co.rw, the deal was penned by Rhys Torrington, the Azam Media Chief Executive Officer and Rwanda Football Federation (FERWAFA) president, Vincent de Gaulle Nzamwita early this week on Monday.

“It is important for your football and for us. I don’t know how many people know Azam but we believe this is the time to be known. Associating with Rwanda’s football will definitely help us penetrate into the ever growing demand for TV entertainment in Rwanda. This is an important day in the history of Rwanda’s football. We are committed to supporting football development in this country,” Torrington told the NewTimes.

The pay TV Company will inject at least $350,000 in league for their first season before increasing the amount to $500,000 per season for the next four seasons.

The FERWAFA president, Vincent de Gaulle Nzamwita was delighted with the mileage reached upon as far as developing football in the country is concerned.

“We are excited after reaching an agreement with Azam TV to sponsor the Rwandan league. We believe that their support will leave an improvement to the welfare of our clubs thus improving the standard of the game,” he said.

Here are the 16 teams in Rwanda’s top tier that will benefit from the new deal: APR, Rayon Sports, SC Kiyovu AS Kigali, Musanze, Marines, Gicumbi, Sunrise, Bugesera, Rwamagana, Espoir, Police FC, Amagaju and Mukura Victory Sport.
