Every party animal is aware that September is the month of the Royal Ascot races. Not this year! The Royal Ascot goat race has been shelved and could be permanently scrapped off the social scene, our moles have revealed.
However, doubts were cast whether the event will cease to exist. Some argued the event has only been postponed to prioritize the wedding of Sudhir’s due February next year.
The organiser of the event, East Africa’s wealthiest man Sudhir Ruparelia has shown more interest partnering with Kampala City Authority to organise the Kampala City Festival, moving his social influence to the heart of the city as the event is planned to become an annual celebration of Ugandan music and culture, merry making and family fun open to the general public.
The festival was started last year at the height of the Uganda at 50 independence Jubilee excitement. This means Kampala joins the list of world cities with signature carnivals and celebrations.

Battle Of The Oranges, Ivrea, Italy
Legend has it a tyrant was killed by a girl so to commemorate their feedom residents in Ivrea, organise teams of nine gladiators who chop oranges in a competition. Why oranges? Mbu, it signifies the tyrant’s testicles! Oh God!
EYO, Nigeria, Lagos
An ancient Yoruba tradition where men dress in white to symbolise the spirits in a procession through the kingdom and ending at the king’s palace to a royal fest.
Brazil Carnival, Rio
The Brazilian carnival is held annually during the Friday to the Tuesday before Ash Wednesday so it is a ”Christian” event. Have you seen the images? Holy! Holy!
We hope the Kampala City festival will grow to have a signature celebration not bouncing castles and the like!
