Recently, Ugandan winger Sula Matovu ‘Malouda’ joined South African giants Kaizer Chiefs where he signed a long-term contract of three years that will keep him at the club until mid-2018.
The winger joined the Amakhosi on a free transfer after falling out with Swedish side BK Hacken in a deal that is reported to have cost the club R3 million (approximately Ugx790million).
The payment was made as a signing bonus for the player, agent and settlement fees excluding his wages.
“You should remember that Chiefs’ didn’t buy the player as he is a free agent. It was then up to the two parties to agree on what the player wanted and his salary as well. For the signing on fee, the agent money and the other settlement fees, it’s close to R3 million, which I think is very fair if you look at how good the player is,” reads a statement on Soccerladuma.co.za. “He will bring a lot to the team. He is only a 22-year-old, but he has the experience. It’s a good deal for both sides.”
Matovu signed for Kaizer Chiefs after impressing Coach Steve Komphela during his trial period with the club. With the ability to play on both the left and right wing, Sula could fill the void on the right, replacing Mandla Masango who has left the club.
