Questions always loom about how a guy so talented would let his talent go down the drain. Henry Tigan was a guy with huge prospects in the music game. He was a regular on the social circuit consistently performing on every concert. Why not?? He was the hottest act back then in 2007. His songs littered radio and television alike and his voice envisioned a guy with so much future.
Songs like Abogezi, Lwaki Oninza and that timeless reggae piece Emiranga made him the pin-up boy of reggae music in Uganda and made him affirm his place in people’s hearts.
Even the rest of the world was listening. Marlon Asher of the Ganja Planter fame couldn’t pass up the chance of working with a talent so great that they worked on two joint projects.
The world was waiting. Everyone was waiting for Henry Tigan to explode into one of the biggest artistes in Uganda and also breakthrough the ever elusive international market.
Well, it wasn’t to be.The Fire Base affiliated reggae artiste slowly faded into oblivion and nothing was to ever be heard of him. Last year he tried to re-incarnate himself with tunes like ‘Voom Voom’ but it was clear people missed the Tigan of old.
Well, he is back guys, with a tune everyone will fall in love with called Mukama Gwawade. A visible branch out from his textbook reggae style. He does an afrobeat song with a gospel message. It’s good to notice that he still believes in God’s grace after being on the fringes for long. The song basically talks about how you can never stop a person anointed by God. He also briefly talks about his life’s journey in the song.
Do I approve? I would like to think so. We need him back. You tend to think that the industry is on its death bed with artistes like Captain Dollar topping charts yet more gifted artistes like Tigan are in the wilderness.
