US President Barack Obama reportedly spent his nights at the prestigious Villa Rosa Kempinski Hotel’s presidential suite which according to the hotel offers visitors a “ personal holiday”, The Standard can reveal.

Although the hotel’s management declined to confirm or deny the report, inquiries by The Standard revealed a security team from the US first visited the hotel six months ago in preparation for Obama’s visit.

On Sunday, a day after the US president had left for Ethiopia, the 667 square ft presidential suite was still being secured by US Secret Service agents.

The agents provide security for the US president and his family. It is also in the hotel that the American president ate at least four meals including dinner with his family on Friday evening, breakfast and lunch on Saturday and breakfast on Sunday morning.

The food was prepared by a team of Kenyan chefs. On Saturday, Obama was hosted for dinner at State House meaning it was likely he did not at the hotel.

During the 22nd World Travel Awards at the Seychelles in June, Villa Rosa Kempinski was voted as the leading hotel brand and having the best presidential suite in Kenya.

The suite is located on the hotel’s 10th floor. It has four bedrooms, a separate lounge, kitchen and honour bar. Guests at the presidential suite can host a cocktail with up to 60 people comfortably. “The rates at the presidential suite vary depending on whether you are billing an individual, a corporate or the government. But its roughly 15,000 dollars a night,” Anne Murungi, the facility’s director of sales and marketing, said.
