Only abstinence – completely avoiding sexual contact, including kissing, real intercourse and all forms of oral sex, can completely save a person from sexually transmitted infections (STIs).
STIs are spread by all forms of sexual contact between two people which involves the genitals, mouth, or rectum as well as between a pregnant woman and her unborn baby.
The bad news is that not all STIs can be cured – e.g. HIV and human papillomavirus (HPV).
With infidelity becoming a norm, you need to be careful about sexual partners because, even though a person shows no symptom of an STI, he or she may still be infected and infect you in turn.
Again, some people spread STIs without even knowing (or knowing) they are infected
So here are some questions you might need to ask:
How many people have you had sex with?
Have you had sex without a condom?
Have you ever had unprotected oral sex?
Have you had more than one sex partner at a time?
Have you ever had unprotected sex with a prostitute?
Have you had a test for HIV? What were the results?
Have you ever had an STI, including hepatitis B or hepatitis C? Was it treated and cured?
Do you inject illegal drugs or have you had sex with someone who injects drugs?
