As the football fraternity across the country gets over Uganda’s humiliating 4-0 defeat against Egypt over the weekend in the 3rd round first leg of the CAF U-23 Qualifiers, head coach Micho says they learnt a positive lesson despite the loss.
“Though the results were negative, we learnt a positive lesson. We have to do anything to prepare for a positive mental fitness, tactical and physical approach of the team,” Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic remarked during the weekly press conference at the FUFA house in Mengo, Kampala.
Micho was also quick to add that the team has great potential and the ability to overturn the 4-0 result and qualify for the tournament.
The huge loss greatly narrowed Uganda Kobs’ chances of qualifying for the CAF U-23 Africa Championship and probably the forth coming 2016 Olympic Games that will be in Brazil.
The defeat also sparked off criticisms and questions about Micho’s consistency in terms of results. It should be remembered that Uganda didn’t qualify for the All Africa Games after losing to Mozambique at Nakivubo in a penalty shoot and now could lose out on the CAF U-23 tournament.
The Kobs will resume training on Thursday, 23rd July 2015 at Phillip Omondi stadium Lugogo.
According to the federation’s website, the Kobs are expected to have a buildup match against Uganda Cup champions SC Villa on Saturday, 25th July 2015. Another friendly for the Kobs is expected on Wednesday 29th August against an undisclosed team.
3rd Round return leg: Uganda Vs Egypt [Aggregate Score: Egypt 4-0 Uganda] – 1st August at Nakivubo stadium, Kampala.
