While rugby fans across the country continue to exuberate the Rugby Cranes’ weekend triumph that got Uganda promoted to Tier 1A, the players who accomplished that milestone are allegedly yet to receive their allowances.
Uganda whipped Botswana on Saturday 59-10 at the Kyadondo Rugby Grounds in their last game of the Rugby Africa Tier 1B tournament to earn their promotion to Tier 1A, a class they had lost in 2013 after being relegated.
This followed an impressive run throughout the tournament in which they edged countries like Ivory Coast by 45-11, Mauritius by 35-11 and lastly Botswana.
It was due to this triumph that the Nile Special/Uganda Sports Press Association Sports Personality award winners (for the month of June) were treated to a victory dinner which is rumored to have not gone down well as planned.
Unconfirmed reports indicate that the players stormed out of the dinner over unpaid allowances despite their toils and sacrifice to achieve this success.
