Jamal real names Jamal Wasswa Rafiki, a last born of five from a single mum, is an artiste who is majorly into dancehall, afro beat and goes beyond to reggae.

He is commonly known for his sweet voice and his music which basically advocates for women’s respect. He is a talented artiste and girls claim the guy is cute. That’s not all, other women think otherwise, they think the guy is too mushy, and so soft which is not a character of a real man. As a matter of fact some people think he’s gay because he acts so “chick-ish”.

Jamal started his music career in the early 2000’s, where he was so much engaged in karaoke which he saw as one of those ways to attain his dream. He did his karaoke thing at Sabrina pub in Kampala. This is where he got in touch with a guy named Alex who inspired him and boosted his confidence and belief in himself which helped him develop his music career.

Alex developed Jamal’s career in Rwanda. Jamal came back in Uganda in ‘06 and got in touch with Mwesigwa of DV records. Mwesigwa is the man responsible for crafting “Abakyala bazzira” among other songs which propelled Jamal onto the Ugandan music scene. The song earned Jamal an award in 2010 at PAM Awards for best RnB single. This started the sweet moments in his career. This was mixed with favorites of “Ononsonyiiwa” “Saba kyosaba” “Omusomesa” “obawuuwo” “anavaawa” to mention but a few.

If anything, Jamal confesses, “I only write out my songs at the last moment when I’m going to the studio. Most times I write in my head first. I try to sing in my free time and if I sing a good chorus, I will remember it.” Therefore this pulls him out of the common crowd of having tons of paper with lyrics.

He has a white girl friend that is believed to have pumped in a lot of money to lift Jamal’s music career and accordingly, Jamal has not been a disappointment.

Wrapping up, Jamal is surely still on the music scene and luckily enough he is soft spoken and has not yet been involved in the musicians beef and with this progress the he surely be a superstar.

Keep going Jamal. We got your back as fans!
