On Sunday 12th April, the Kabaka of Buganda Ssabasajja Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II flagged off the thousands of people who had come to his palace in Mengo to participate in the 2015 Kabaka Run.

Aimed at fighting Fistula, the event was attended by top Kingdom officials such as the Katikkiro of Buganda, Charles Peter Mayiga, Prince David Wasajja and Princess Katrina Ssangalyambogo. Local icons such as musician Bebe Cool, kick boxer Ronald Mugula and the entire SC Villa team led by FUFA President, Moses Magogoalso participated in the Run.
Airtel Uganda was the main sponsor of the 2015 Kabaka Run as part of a partnership agreement that was signed with the Buganda Kingdom worth 170million shillingsfor the next three years to cater for four of the most important Buganda Kingdom activities; the Kabaka Run, Kabaka’s birthday, the Kabaka’s coronation as well as Eid El Fitri.
After the run, the crowds were addressed by the Katikkiro of Buganda Hon. Charles Peter Mayiga who stated that “With this kind of support from Airtel Uganda, Fistula will soon be an issue of the past.Helping women means we are helping the mothers of the nation so we thank you all.”

Speaking after the Run, Airtel Uganda Managing Director Mr. Tom Gutjahr said; “It is part of our social responsibility to contribute to the well-being of the society in which we live. Today is yet another victory that shows what society can achieve when people join hands for a just cause.”
The chief runner was Prince David Wasajja, who completed the 21 KM race in 2 hours and 50 minutes.
