The annual secondary schools tournament commonly known as Copa Coca-Cola tournament was launched last week on Friday at the at Century Bottling Company headquarters in Namanve.

At a press briefing on Friday, schools were informed that only players that are not above the age of 20 years will be allowed to feature in the competition.

The tournament governing committee also said that students who have repeated classes will not be allowed to play as they sent a warning to schools that forge birth certificates for students at Nasser Road.

The tournament lead sponsors Coca-Cola through their country sales manager Robert Davies pledged continuous support to the schools’ soccer tournament that has uprooted over 6000 young talents like Cranes youngster Yunis Sentamu who featured for St. Juliana high school a few years ago.

“We are proud to be associated with grass root sports. We shall continue supporting Copa Coca Cola tournament and help soccer officials identify talents that will take Uganda to another level,” Davies said on Friday.

Schools like defending champions Kibuli SS, Old Kampala SS, St. Joseph Laibi, Mulusa Academy, Nakaseke SS, London College Nansana, Lisa College School, St. Juliana, St. Mary’s College Kitende, Kawempe Muslim and Lubiri SS are some of those that have already qualified for the finals that will be played in Masindi.

About sixty teams from over twenty regions will gather at Duhaga Secondary School on April 25 for the tournament with the final set to be played at the Boma ground on May 9th.
