Ugandans roast Minister for proposal to move all burials to weekends.

Daudi Migereko

In Uganda, most people carry out their wedding parties on weekends. One Hon Minister, The Minister for Lands, Housing and Urban Development, Daudi Migereko, is proposing that the Government sets aside weekends as days for burials to take place.

According to the minister, Ugandans should spend more time doing productive things doing the week other than grieving the dead. Angry Ugandans then weighed in with comments on the ministers proposal. Below are some of the comments.

James:
Hon. Migereko with due respect sir, we subscribe to various religious faiths. Our Islamic brethren quickly bury their dead regardless of your honourable view. Those of us who don’t have public figures as friends too have no particular day to say farewell to our departed ones. It would stifle funeral arrangements by having to lay them on restricted days. My humble suggestion is to let our legislators manage their time objectively. We do NOT live for MPs. They are just members of the humble denomination called humanity.

Pascal:
These crazy Ugandans have nothing to do in the Whitehouse now anything that clicks on their mind their mouth will air it out its very sad that if I lose my relative on Monday I will have to wait till weekend no matter whether its decaying or not as the same time increasing the cost of feedings mourners. You see, those are the guys we pay our taxes to.

Geoffrey:
Mr. Minister should understand death and burial are not supposed to be political issues, they must happen with or without government. The only problem with the current politicians is that they even pray for people to keep dying in their constituencies so that they concentrate on automatic visit to bereaved families under auspices of showing heart yet their motive is ganging favors for future votes. The statement by the minster can easily mean death should only occur around Thursdays or Fridays so that his idea can be well taken. However, it seems he has not analyzed many factors to consider burial only over the weekend. Anyway, he is a politician so can talk anything right or bad.

We will keep you posted.
