Egypt has pulled out from potentially hosting the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) with just a month and half left for the Confederation of African Football to announce the host of the biennial tournament.
The development follows the persistent chaos in some of its local league matches which have become a hinderance to the security precautions that need to be taken into consideration if a nation is to host the continental tournament.
It should be remembered that Libya was meant to host the tournament in 2017 after failing to make it 2013 and handing over to South Africa in process due to the post revolution insecurity that have continued to manifest in the north African country hence making it no home for such a big tournament.
Egypt’s withdrawal leaves the 2015 runners up Ghana, the 2012 co-hosts Gabon and Algeria as the three nations in the race to host the 2017 campaign.
