A second victory for defending champions Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) in the second round of the FUFA Azam premier league has sent them top of the table. The defending champions defeated Simba 2-0 on Friday at the Phillip Omondi Stadium in Lugogo.
Two second half goals from on-form Herman Wasswa and Derrick Nsibambi were enough to see off Simba and sending the Kasasiro boys top of the league summit in the process.
The Yellows who looked the better side came close to taking an early lead in the first minute of the game but Michael Birungi’s attempt was well saved by Simba’s goalie Harrison Sempagi.
First half efforts from both sides yielded no fruits as it ended 0-0 at half-time. The second half saw KCCA take the lead when Herman Wasswa tapped the ball into the back of the net off Tom Matisko’s header.
The yellow boys created more chances in second half but lost most of them due to poor finishing with Michael Birungi being a culprit before Derrick Nsibambi doubled the lead. Nsibambi came off the bench to replace Herman Wasswa to score.
The victory sends KCCA top of the 16-team log with 36 points from 17 games with better goal difference than second placed SC Villa who are also tied on 36 points from 16 games. Vipers who are yet to kick-off their second round of the season are now in third place with 35 points from 15 games after their fixtures were postponed after some of their players were called for national duty with the Kobs in Mozambique for the All Africa games qualifier.
