At the beginning of 2015, we wrote here on BigEye.ug, how Obsessions, the Ugandan music and dance group known for having cute chics and choreography had bounced back to life with a fresh and younger team.
When we wrote this, it wasn’t clear if, or for how long the new lease of life would last. However, following the groups’ numerous TV appearances, increasing radio airplay and their just concluded Valentine ’s Day performance, we can say with a lot of certainty that they are indeed back and here to stay.
The groups’ Valentines show which started at 11pm at the Namugongo-based Blue Ice bar saw Obsessions prove to its fans that they are bigger and better than ever in a two-hour, energetic music and dance performance.
The ensemble which included expertly choreographed dances as well as performances to their new tracks like “Dalu” and “Mbulila” left the crowd begging for more.
Ugandan’s are notorious for ditching boring shows, but we can confirm that the venue was packed with fans cheering throughout the performance. The acts were so well planned and executed, with no awkward moment’s of silence that seem to characterize many shows in Kampala today.
The group, whose videos have so far received raving reviews from Kampala’s critiques like Vision Group’s Dennis Asiimwe, of the musically speaking column, as well as Robert Segawa, has already done two gigs this month and has several lined up.
They are also slated to perform at Club Silk today 17th and on 28th at the Boxing Award ceremony before Women’s day, when they will curtain raise for Nigeria’s Tiwa Savage.
All said, we have watched many groups with the same levels of energy fail to maintain the momentum, so we shall keep our eyes open for this group.
