She cranes

By James Robert Kayindi

Unlike in the past where only ex-fighters, entrepreneurs and politicians were the only ones being awarded with medals for their respective contributions on the National Resistance Movement (NRM) liberation day, the story changed on this year’s celebrations as the president His Excellence Yoweri Kaguta Museveni recognized the She Cranes’ contribution with a medal.

The Uganda national netball team, the She Cranes were yesterday awarded with a medal as a way of hailing their tireless efforts that saw Uganda qualify for this year’s netball World Cup since 1979.

It should remembered that the She Cranes overcame their financial troubles to edge rivals of Zambia, Botswana, Swaziland and Namibia whom they defeated to qualify for the World Cup during the qualification campaign back in September 2014 that was played in Gabrone-Botswana.

Uganda qualified to join South Africa and Malawi to make three countries that will represent Africa at this year’s netball World Cup that is due August in Sydney, Australia.
