The anticipation, confidence, and FOMO all tailed off away as the Club Music Video Awards failed to impress the already excited fans that were waiting for a revolutionized award event. When the nominees list was released for press and public, all seemed fine not before the rigidities were black spotted. The people’s thought of reasoning that Naava got nominated because one of the Judges signed her to his label (Rockstar4000) is tear-jerking.
We understand and respect the judges’ decisions, for a reason or two. Maybe the people who submitted these videos faked release dates and description or the Judges’ myopic relevancy about Uganda’s music industry. But numbers don’t lie, math is real. Being in a position where I can put forth what I think needs attention, last night one of my good friends sparked light on another category that includes a music video that was released two years back, what? Yes, two solid years. “Nze Ndi Wakabi I am Bad” music video by KS Alpha which was nominated in the category of “Best Use of Technology” was uploaded on March 7th 2011. Where is the judges’ expertise when you need it? September is a month away, these errors can be revised. I can only imagine what you went through while vetting, it’s a tiring process but at least the vetted videos needed to be scrutinized descriptively.
This is not a blame game; I am not taking shots at any parties involved. But as long as these videos (Nteredde, Work it Out and Nze Ndi Wakabi I am Bad) or the error of submission is not corrected, the whole event is meaningless and irrelevant to the public and the whole music industry. They are not bad videos, in fact they are awesome but the problem is they are not in line with the rules that are guiding this event.
