Uganda-Chan

All 16 teams will have to wait for September to know their opponents when the 2014 Africa Nations Championship (Chan) draws are conducted in Cairo, Egypt.

But Micho Sredojevic, the Cranes coach, is intent on not only participating in South Africa early next year but putting up a better show than Uganda did at their debut appearance at the 2011 edition in Sudan.

“I never told you that I will win (the Chan),” said the Serbian coach, adding, “So I cannot just say we are going to win the cup in South Africa.

“But what I can tell is we shall look to improve from our performance in Sudan, to do things that make you win by preparing well.”

The Cranes – then under the stewardship of Micho’s predecessor Bobby Williamson – lost all group games in Sudan, scoring just one goal.

“First target will be to try and win our group matches (in South Africa). Our target is to try going past the group stage, then later on see the situation.

“It’s then that we shall look to the quarterfinals, and then may be semifinals, and possibly the final.”

Uganda eliminated Tanzania Tanzania 4-1 on aggregate after dismissing the Taifa Stars 3-1 in Kampala at the weekend to qualify.
