On Friday evening, Liquid Silk in Bugolobi was awash with legions of jazz fanatics who pitched up to feast on Michael Kitanda’s enchanting jazz. Michael, ever since he came in the industry, has been ranked highly by music purists. He is the next jazz extraordinaire. And his prowess was evident on Friday as he melted Liquid Silk with his sax.

The show kicked off lightly at around 8pm with the emcee of the night, Yvonne Koreta, trying to put everyone in the jazz mood. Later, Daphine Achiro took to the stage as the first performer of the evening. She performed three pieces: Fever, You Love Me and PataPata. Another budding crooner and largely promising JC Muyonjo followed with his soothing voice that literally melted the audience. JC Muyonjo, like Michael Kitanda, has also been ranked highly; his melodic voice cannot be gainsaid. He performed three of his original songs: If We Try, Waiting On You and Beautiful Girl. He culminated his performance with Hold On We’re Going Home, a cover by Drake.

Michael Kitanda, the headlining act of the evening, followed with his saxophone nestled in his hands. Hands were clapped as he sauntered to the front. He served his repertoire of songs that included: My One and Only Love, Smooth Cruise, Can We Talk, That’s The Way Love Goes, Semusajja among others. Before he could finish, he had already conquered the hearts of the people. His performance was just enough to stamp what the music purists had made noise about; Michael Kitanda is, indeed, the next big thing as far as jazz music is concerned.
