South African Prison Gang Leader Promises To ‘Take Out Oscar Pistorius’ in jail

The ‘leader’ of a notorious prison gang has threatened to ‘take out’ Oscar Pistorius if he is jailed.

The warning was issued by Khalil Subjee, known as The General of the feared 26s gang in Pretoria’s Kgosi Mampuru prison.

Blade Runner star Pistorius is being sentenced this week for killing girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp.

He was charged with her murder on 14 February 2013 and went on trial in March 2014. In September 2014 he was found not guilty of murder, but guilty of manslaughter.

Pistorius, who said he shot Steenkamp, a law graduate and model, after mistaking her for an intruder, faces anything from a suspended sentence or community service to 15 years in jail.

In court in Pretoria, his defence lawyer Barry Roux questioned the star’s safety if he was sent to jail.

Reading from a newspaper report in which Subjee was quoted he said: “This thug, calling himself ‘The General’ [Subjee], has been in prison for the past 33 years and is the leader of the feared 26s prison gang.

“Using a prison call box, this jailbird promised Pistorius hell, saying his wealth would not buy him a lavish prison lifestyle – instead he would ‘be taken out’.

“Anyone who thinks they can come here and live like a king, will have a hit on their head. If he thinks he is going to come here and buy his way to get computers and cellphones and a lavish lifestyle, he must know that will never happen for as long as I am around.”

Subjee, 47 – who allegedly claims to control a number of South African prisons – was reported earlier this year to be behind the stabbing of fellow prisoners Clive Derby-Lewis and Janus Walusz.

Subjee reportedly said he stabbed Derby-Lewis because he had called late president Nelson Mandela ‘a monkey.’

He has also reportedly threatened several other prisoners in the jail.

Pistorius’ sentencing continues.
