Following reports that international R&B singer Akon had performed in a bubble to avoid contracting Ebola, the singer has come to dismiss the claims. Akon was performing at the International Day of Peace celebrations in Goma in the eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo where he made a rare appearance in a bubble that caught the attention of the media.

The singer claims the “Bubble Performance” was not a spur of the moment but an idea he has harbored for sometime. He tweeted:

This bubble has been apart of my show for years. Way before Ebola existed. Let’s try n stop Ebola before it spreads. pic.twitter.com/3vlB8Xvr3C

— AKON (@Akon) October 4, 2014

It’s sad how the media spin everything so negatively. I would never intentionally isolate myself from my African people.
