After an away and home defeat by the Zambian young Chipolopolo, the last hope for Uganda Cubs’ qualification for the CAF U-17 tourney that is due January 2015 in Niger has finally perished. The Federation of Uganda Football Association had petitioned CAF over Zambian players alleging that there had been use of overage players during the Cubs 2-0 loss in Lusaka, Zambia in the CAF U-17 qualifiers tie but according to reports, Uganda has lost the petition.
“This morning, CAF has written back to us rejecting the petition FUFA had filed against the Zambian Federation for allegedly using over aged players”, Ahmed Hussein, the Federation Spokesperson told the media today during the weekly press conference at FUFA house in Mengo.
Despite losing the petition, FUFA President, Eng. Moses Magogo maintained the good spirit for the game as he went ahead to congratulate the Zambians for having booked themselves a slot in Niger come January 2015.
“Our brothers in Zambia, we congratulate you upon qualifying for the Niger finals. The rebuilding process for Uganda’s youngsters continues”, Eng. Magogo told the media.
The Uganda Cubs were beaten 2 – 1 at Nakivubo last Saturday and were therefore kicked out on a 4 – 1 aggregate.
The CAF communication now implies that Zambia have successfully joined Niger, Cote d’Ivoire, Nigeria, South Africa , Mali, Ghana and Guinea at the finals. The last four teams will the qualify for the U-17 world cup that will be played in Chile.
