If there are underdogs in Uganda’s music industry, then they must be Maro and David Lutalo. They are talented crooners. They are vocally rich. Yes, gulp on it. And to borrow Eddie Griffin’s words, ‘Tell’em I said it.’ They are the proverbial hot cake in Uganda’s music industry today. And now, they merge talents to come off with Mubbi Bubbi. A lamentation of a paranoid man who experienced thievery at the hands of his woman. He laments nicely, though, that I must say. He seems peeved. And you would be, too, if you were in his shoes. Girls are known to be thieving creatures; they steal hearts and, well, materialistic things. And in this song, with a seemingly thieving title, reveals such outrageous antics.
In this song, two things stick out: Firstly, Maro can sing. Secondly, David Lutalo can sing as well. They feed off each other effectively, crooning over a good beat and, in so doing, stealing people’s hearts. I remember the song playing in my head for yonks and I wondered the voices on the track. These lads are the newbies, I tell you. The cajoled learned class might push it away as though it is a leper labeling it below their standards, but little do they know how awesome and good the song is. It is flawless and perfectly executed. And the fact that it teems of two talented lads, it makes it a must listen. Plus, it is a love song. And love songs, when baked well, are renowned for their magical grip of the heart. Mubbi Bubbi is a good song. And we need such collaborations to keep the wheels of our music going.
