Africa’s football governing body (CAF) has come out to dismiss reports claiming that Guinea had been allowed to begin hosting games of 2015 AFCON qualifiers at their home ground. The Confederation of African Football (CAF) say they haven’t yet lifted the temporary ban sanctioned on Guinea therefore don’t have the green-light to begin hosting matches at home especially regarding the ongoing 2015 AFCON qualifiers.
“CAF wishes to affirm that the circular dated 12th August 2014 which stated that Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone cannot host matches on their territories due to the Ebola outbreak still holds. It was mentioned in the circular that a new assessment of the situation will be discussed in mid-September 2014 in consultation with the World Health Organization and the CAF Medical Committee”, reads a statement on CAF’s official website.
“The CAF Executive Committee is scheduled to meet on 19-20 September 2014 at the African Union (AU) Headquarters in Addis Ababa, to decide on further precautionary measures with respect to countries hit by the Ebola outbreak”, the statement further clarified.
The Egypt based continental governing body will have its medical Committee reassess the health conditions in all the three sanctioned countries (Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone) as regards to matters of Ebola.
