ARSENE WENGER claims Arsenal were owed Danny Welbeck after selling Robin van Persie to Manchester United. Welbeck joined the Gunners late on transfer deadline day for £16m.
The England international had fallen further down the pecking order at Old Trafford with the imminent arrival of striker Radamel Falcao.
And Wenger believes it was a fair deal, having sold prized asset van Persie to United for £27m in the summer of 2012.
When asked if he was surprised that United let Welbeck leave for the Emirates, Wenger said: “Look, we sold van Persie to Manchester United, so that’s a reciprocity.
He added: “I thought that when they bought Falcao, they had to let somebody go.
“It was quick because it was the last day of the transfer window but I had no hesitation to do it.”
