A new movie about the atrocities committed by the late Idi Amin while he was president of Uganda, will be shot and released in Uganda soon. The movie, created by Dan Fabrizio, is based on Kefa Sempangi’s book “A Distant Grief”.

Dan read the book after it was given to him by a friend. He explains that after reading the book, he was inspired to create a new movie.

He said: “I read the book and it changed my life in many ways. It opened my eyes to the pure evil of Idi Amin, but more importantly to the fact that his darkness could not extinguish the light of the Ugandan people. It thought then that it would make a great movie. It took me many years to make contact with Kefa Sempangi, but when I did we immediately hit it off and made plans to write a screenplay.”

Dan’s original plan to cast celebrated American actors Don Cheadle and Dennis Haysbert in the lead roles and have the film produced by a Hollywood studio did not materialize as they pulled out due to pay issues. He then decided to have local Ugandan actors taking the roles. He is now fundraising for funds to produce the movie under his company, Dogwood Media Productions Ltd.

The first round of auditions took place in Kampala and successful actors will soon be contacted. The final round of auditions will take place in October.

“A Distant Grief is a life changing movie that will have a powerful impact throughout the world. I believe this movie will touch your heart and introduce you to an amazing culture who truly understand what it is like to live by faith and not by sight,” says Dan.

The movie will cost over 12 billion shillings.

We will keep you posted.
