Finally, the Uganda Premier League looks set to kick off after settling it battles. Many of you have been probably wondering why the league that was meant to kick-off on the 2nd September 2014 didn’t start as earlier communicated. Well, this was because Big League side, Maroons early this week filed a case against FUFA and managed to get a court injunction that saw the extended league re-extended.
According to earlier schedules from the Federation of Ugandan football (FUFA) the league had been set to start on the 22nd of August but was extended to the 2nd of September, however the disease from which Uganda’s football seems to suffer from looks to have never cured as the league was re-extended because of unsettled issues between the governing body FUFA and the relegated Maroon FC.
Having gone to court, the two sides were advised to seek arbitration to resolve their differences. The two sides chose state minister for sports, Mr Charles Bakabulindi to mediate between the two parties.
Maroons appear to have come to a consensus with FUFA as they have agreed to feature in the FUFA Big League for the season 2014/15. Maroons FC were the winners of the Uganda Super League before a great catastrophe hit Ugandan football which led to the outbreak of two leagues running concurrently in Uganda’s top flight league.
Asaph Mwebaze, the Maroons FC coach said that they will play in the FUFA Big League as decided for the interest of Ugandan football. “If that is what will take Ugandan football to the next level, then let’s go and play in the Big League and let the top tier go on,” he stressed.
