Supersport.com Uganda Cranes utility player Denis Guma says the faith coach Micho Sredojevic had in him inspired his Man of the Match display against Tanzania.
The Sports Club Victoria University (SCVU) Player of the Year scored the all-important goal in the 1-0 victory in Dar es Salaam at the weekend as Uganda established early advantage in the race to the 2014 Africa Nations Championship (Chan) to be held in South Africa.
But having played as right back in the last three Cranes World Cup qualifying games, Micho handed Guma a midfield role in Tanzania and the player never disappointed.
Not that he was surprised. “I have no problem,” Guma told SuperSport.com, adding, “I’m comfortable in the midfield; I can play at right back, and am also comfortable in central defence.
“The coach actually didn’t take much time (while telling Guma he would turn out in the midfield against Tanzania).
He just told me that ‘look, I know you can play in the midfield, just go and enjoy your football.’ I did exactly that.
“The fact that the coach had faith in me in that area gave me added confidence. I said if he can trust me, then I have to do it.”
The Cranes resume training on Wednesday as they prepare for the return leg on July 27 at Namboole.
