Uganda’s road to Morocco has just began following their win in Mauritania

Uganda cranes 1

By James Robert Kayindi

Uganda Cranes’ journey to the Africa Nations’ Cup 2015 in Morocco just began after they qualified yesterday to join Ghana, Guinea and Togo in group E of the Africa Nations’ Cup qualifiers. It was great news, happiness and joy everywhere yesterday as Uganda’s win over Mauritania continued to spread all over the country. It was quite a wonderful game as Uganda took on Mauritania in the second leg at the Olympic stadium in Nouakchott in Mauritania yesterday.

Uganda coach Micho fielded a side that looked more defensive than attacking as Uganda needed only a draw to qualify therefore there wasn’t room to be left for conceding goals. Despite the good opposition displayed by Mauritania who seemed more determined in their attacking efforts, Uganda Cranes emerged victors at the blow of the final whistle, thanks to the brilliant strike by URA’s striker Robert Ssentongo in injury time of the game, 91st minute as he answered a cross from Diego Hamis Kizza.

Many thought that after going past Madagascar after two legs that ended 2-1 and 1-0, away and home respectively, qualifying on away goals rule after a 2-2 final aggregate and then beating Mauritania home and away 2-0 and 1-0 respectively qualifying with a 3-0 aggregate, Uganda had qualified for the Africa Nations’ Cup since their final against Ghana in 1978. Actually this only meant that Uganda has qualified for the group stages of the Africa Nations’ Cup qualifiers of the group stages where they will be playing Guinea at home (Namboole stadium) on the 13th of September 2014.

The road to Morocco just begun for Uganda.
