Carlos Vela has told Real Sociedad he has received an “irresistible” offer from Atletico Madrid, according to Spanish newspaper Marca.
The 25-year-old has been linked with a return to Arsenal this summer, having been on the books for seven years before being sold to Sociedad in 2012.
The Gunners inserted a buy-back clause in Vela’s contract, meaning they can take him back to the Emirates for a meagre £3.3million.
However, they now look set for a battle to land the Mexican with La Liga champions Atletico Madrid.
Today’s Marca carries a front-page story of the reported interest, titled: “Vela announces Atletico deal.”
It continues “The Mexican striker confirms the La Liga champions has made him an “irresistible” proposal.”
Diego Simeone’s men will be eager to fill the void left by Spanish hitman Diego Costa, who is closing in on his switch to Chelsea, and David Villa, who has signed for New York City FC.
The 25-year-old completed his medical at Stamford Bridge earlier this week, with a £32million fee touted.
Atletico have asked for Romelu Lukaku on a season-long loan as part of the deal, meaning the Belgium could link up with Vela at the Vicente Calderon come August.
