Women aren’t ignorant to the fact that guys rely on wingmen to up their game. So when you think you’re being slick by having a co-pilot intervene on your behalf, you’re not. Unless you use a woman as a wingman. In that case, you’re able to elevate your game while flying under the radar. Don’t believe us? Then listen to Marni Kinrys, the Ultimate Wing Girl and founder of the Wing Girl Method, as she explains some of her secrets, including why you’re more likely to leave with a girl by showing up with one.
REASON #1: WINGMEN ARE EASILY DISTRACTED
Men are easily distracted. Period. A study done at the University of Amsterdam tested 20 men and 20 women by hooking them up to a machine that monitored brain activity while they performed a simple task. When shown pictures of members of the opposite sex, men trended towards distraction, while women stayed on top of the project. Scientists reason that this flakiness in men is a result of caveman urges toward pretty faces because they signify fertility and a greater capacity to carry on the bloodline.
REASON #2: IT’S LESS OF A BAIT-AND-SWITCH
Working with a wingman can be self-sabotaging if he’s too charismatic and charming and you’re … well, you. What’s stopping her from dropping you for your funnier, better-looking buddy? And if the two of you are running game and she gets wise to your scheme, she’s going to have a hard time trusting you. “The girl will feel swindled,” says Kinrys of using a wingman to tee up. “With a wingwoman, she’s not sold on one guy, then traded in for another.”
REASON #3: WOMEN WANT WHAT THEY CAN’T HAVE
People are inherently jealous and competitive. So when an attractive woman sees you step in with another woman, it’s, like, so on. “It piques curiosity,” Kinrys says. “If a guy shows up with a cute girl, it makes him noticeable. Other girls will start thinking, ‘What makes him desirable? Why does he like her? Why does she like him?’ And then, eventually, ‘I want him, too.’”
REASON #4: WOMEN TRUST OTHER WOMEN
The same way you ask male co-workers who you should start in fantasy fooball this week, women ask other women who they should date. And showing up with a girl who can vouch for you will ultimately bode well for selling yourself to other ladies. “Unless it’s some sort of issue with a specific girl,” clarifies Kinrys, “Girls look out for one another. I’ve had women I didn’t know come up to me at bars and say ‘Stay away from that guy.’ And I listened. It sparked my curiosity, but I listened. Girls will typically give other girls the real deal, need-to-know information.”
REASON #5: YOU’RE PRE-SCREENED
Showing up with another woman makes it clear that you’re an acceptable companion who has something to offer. “Seeing a guy acting friendly with another girl lets you know he can get along with women,” Kinrys explains. “It also indicates that girls generally like him, and that he’s not overly aggressive.” Plus, having a woman hanging by your side indicates that you aren’t desperate; guys who reek of desperation generally go home alone unless they’re paying for company.
