revolution

By Edd

I always say, Uganda’s Hip Hop music was on its deathbed, pushing life-large tabs down its dry throat and squirming; coughing through an oxygen mask. Over the past few moons, it has steadily staggered off its deathbed and gained strength and its counterparts (read genres) are getting scared. Yes, it is going through a transition, but then again, by the look of things, it is a good transition.

The transition has seen young lads fast-rise from the ashes. Among them is Timonthy Muhumuza commonly known as CODE. He has been around for some time now with songs like “Shut It Down”, “Hands In The Stadium” in his bag. He donned an apron and squeezed himself in a kitchen. He has been cooking. Since September, as he confessed, he has been working on a song. From the kitchen reeking of cooking ingredients, he brings REVOLUTION. Here, he brings forth the talents of Enygma and Yvonne Kushe.

Revolution is worth to spark off a revolution. A musical revolution. The song is, no doubt, worth the wait. How many months? 8 months? CODE cracks the code on this song. He owns it. He gets it in his grip and rules it. His ability to rap and twirl words cannot be gainsaid here; he has a way of churning out words, weaves them together and delivers them in a fashionable manner. Isn’t what a revolution is all about? To announce new rappers on the block? He announces himself, for the umpteenth time, with Revolution.

The song as it rattles on seems good, undoubtedly; though, it seems to be on a plateau and when a lady voice appears, it takes a twist; a good twist. Yvonne Kushe brings a touch of mellow and unadulterated air on this song. She has a way of hissing through songs. It is magical. It really is. Then Engyma, too, delivers his verses in a golden but creative platter. I mean, he is Enygma. He never disappoints and, indeed, he never disappointed in this song. He got his iconic voice which can shake the platonic plates with practiced ease and poured it on the song that was steadily promising. Revolution, like I said, should spark off the musical revolution. Good song, this one. Plus, the beat is on point it leaves you nodding your head vigorously. And what do you expect after a nine-months-wait? Not a bouncing baby, but a masterpiece!
