Cranes will not underrate Taifa Stars

Uganda’s second string national team embarked on training today ahead of the first leg of the 2014 African Nations Championships (CHAN) against Tanzania on July 13.

Head coach Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic said facing Tanzania will not be an easy task, but added that they will not underrate them. Micho said getting a good away result in Dar es Salaam before the return leg in Kampala will be very important.

“I know Tanzania has improved a lot over the years and they are not an easy team to beat in their own backyard. But anything is possible in football and belief is one of the key points,” the Serb told MTNFootball.com

Taifa Stars under Danish coach Kim Poulsen has lately made their home turf a good hunting ground for wins where they have beaten the likes of Cameroon and Morocco among the giant sides. Ivory Coast beat them 4-2 in their recent game last month in a 2014 World Cup qualifier in Dar es Salaam.

Micho added that the thirteen days will be enough for training ahead of the game and fitness will be paramount since most players have been on holiday.

The Cranes will look to key players like Hassan Wasswa, Said Kyeyune, Savio Kabugo, Nicholas Wadada and goalkeepers Hamza Muwonge and Ali Kimera who also feature for the senior side.

While the regional Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup champions are preparing to face Tanzania, the Amavubi of Rwanda will also have a tough encounter against much improved Ethiopia, while Burundi takes on Sudan in the other 2014 CHAN qualifying matches.
